Loud Sound presents Tiesto ‘Elements of Life’ World Tour:
In March 2007 the Dutch master will be releasing his third artist album ‘Elements of Life’ and to support this momentous milestone he will be setting sail on a world tour with just one UK stop at the palatial and suitably grandiose Alexandra Palace. Renowned for his spectacular stage shows and breathtaking production this leg of the tour looks sure to raise the standards yet again with his most visually and aurally stunning show to date.
I had a great night at Ally Pally. Tiesto did his thing, I did mine, lol. On the night, the only thing bigger than Tiesto was the queue… fecken ridiculous (English queues, WTF)! After a 1.5 hour wait in the cool night’s breeze and sneaking through a few barriers, we were fortunate enough to be in the door by 12.03, to see Tiesto fire up the decks up at 12.07.
Phew, we made it. I would’ve throttled someone had we missed out on Tiesto’s master entrance, pyrotechnics and all. Being a true trance fan I have no real complaints, although the VIP tickets appeared to be a bit of a con job; why would you want to be in the VIP room when Tiesto was on stage? Plus, you still had to queue for hours. The pill pushers (PILLS PILLS PILLS?) were a bit annoying also – get a life fu*kers!
A handful of Tiesto’s new tracks were performed live by Julie Thompson, Christian Burns and the voice that is JES. More highlights included classic tunes by Binary Finary, Felix, Vincent De Moor and Ayla, along with Tiesto classics like Lethal Industry. The final segment of Tiesto’s mammoth six hour set got my best juices flowing… well into sunrise until closing time, 6.09am.
Dude, he speaks English
During the middle of the set, Tiesto took some time out to thank the crowd before dropping his trademark remix of Silence, by Delerium. Yah, this really was awesome… a big surprise indeed!
Compared to Brixton Academy, 2006?
My gut suggests that the two events were very similar, yet physically quite different. Brixton was definitely more packed, versus Ally Pally with its vast spaces and enhanced effects (lighting, fireworks, bigger visuals). I did miss Brixton’s upper level, which provided an alternative perspective on the DJ set below. However, Ally Pally’s ice-cream, donuts and glow-stick stalls gets the big thumbs up.
I managed to trump last years efforts by arriving home 20 minutes earlier, at 7.40am. It’s definitely worth staying for the entire concert, since buses and the tube don’t run any earlier.
Cost:
- Tickets: £32 + £3 (fee) + £1.50 (postage) = £36.50
- Bottle of water from the bar: £2.50
- Tiesto sweatband: £5 (White with blue Nyana logo)
- Brazilian donut: £1.50 (Caramel filling)
Will Tiesto make it three years in a row? Will I?
Until next time… ravers unite.
